Cozy NelsenWhen you think of Guthrie County REC, you likely picture one of our linemen doing what they do best: keeping the lights on for you. They are the co-op’s most visible
employees and work tirelessly to ensure our community receives uninterrupted power 24/7.

That kind of responsibility doesn’t come without risk. In fact, lineworkers are consistently listed as one of the top 10 most dangerous jobs in the U.S. due to their work around high-voltage power lines in all types of weather conditions, 40 feet in the air while carrying heavy equipment to get the job done.

On the second Monday of every April, we like to take a moment to recognize them and their commitment to our communities during Lineman Appreciation Day. It’s not a glamorous or easy job, and they can be pretty humble about the work they do, but their training, sense of service, and commitment to safety above all else is a reason for us to thank them.

Line Foreman Curt Knapp and Line Superintendent Elden Wolfe provide ongoing expertise and guidance on the operations side of the co-op. Member Service Clerk Marlene Chalfant is standing by to take your calls and questions on rebates, energy efficiency questions and more. And Rebecca Schwartz, Dea Kress and Lori Hix take care of our members and keep the office humming. Without them, our linemen wouldn’t be able to “bring the light” to our community.

Our dedicated linemen are proud to represent Guthrie County REC, and they deserve all the appreciation and accolades that come their way on Lineman Appreciation Day.

On April 12, and any time you see one of our linemen, I hope you’ll join me in thanking them for their exceptional service.
