The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to assist low-income families meet the cost of home heating. A household may qualify for assistance in this program if its income falls within certain income ranges based on the number of household members.
This program is not designed to pay a household's total energy costs, but to provide assistance in the payment of residential heating costs for eligible households.
Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis from November 1 to April 30; the elderly or disabled may apply from October 1 to April 30. When you apply at your local LIHEAP office, you will need the following:

Fixed Income: This income may include social security benefits, supplemental security income, veteran's assistance, unemployment insurance and pensions. Bring copies of most recent three-month check stubs preceding the date of application.

Self-Employment/Farmers: Bring copy of most recent federal income tax return.

Wage Earners: Bring copies of most recent three-month check stubs preceding the date of application or a copy of your federal income tax return.

FIP Recipients: Bring current DHS Notice of Decision or contact local office for acceptable document information.
**If you receive interest or dividend income, alimony or child support, it will also need to be verified**
**A final determination of eligibility is subject to review and totally dependent on the availability of federal funds**
**Benefits will be in the form of a credit applied to your heating bill by your utility company**
